Business Tax Receipts
Any business operating anywhere in Collier County (even inside city limits of Naples ,Marco Island or Everglades City) must have a county business tax receipt. The license is for the privilege of engaging in a business activity either for profit or non-profit.
Obtaining a business tax receipt requires filing an application at our Business Tax Receipt Office, 2800 N. Horseshoe Drive or at our Green tree location at 2348 Immokalee Road. All commercial businesses located in the county will need approval from the Planning Department (located at 2800 N. Horseshoe Drive) and a fire inspection from your local fire department district. In some instances, permits and certifications are required from other state or county agencies. Fictitious Name Registration - you must register the name under which you do business with the Department of State, Division of Corporations. For applications call 1 (850) 245-6058.
License FEES vary with the kind of business. The licenses run through September 30th of the following year and are to be renewed by September 30th or are held delinquent and are penalized a percentage as prescribed by law. We send out renewal notices on June 30th. Revenue from business tax receipts is distributed to both incorporated municipalities and the Collier County Board of Commissioners for the unincorporated area of the county, according to population.
Are there any exceptions to the business tax receipt requirement? Yes, there are a few. If you think you qualify, ask us about exceptions for certain charitable groups, disabled veterans, invalids and senior citizens, over 65.
